+81 feature

I’m happy to say that I’m in +81′s Spring issue, Inspirational Typography. They recently posted 2 copies of the magazine to me, which was really nice of them. I was asked to submit cover design proposals for the issue as well, but they didn’t pick mine, which is okay as I was awfully busy back then and couldn’t spend much time on it, I didn’t feel my designs were that strong enough either.

This was the chosen cover design. It was designed by Craig Ward, whom I’m very much a big fan of. In fact, the issue is full of amazingly talented designers, I feel so honoured to be featured in a typographic issue of +81 and to be in such good company as well.

Type Factory makes for the opening feature project in my interview. Granted, this project has been the most successful one out of everything I’ve produced so far. I should be so lucky to finally design another project that will be as well-received as Type Factory… Well.. One day.

Typographic Diary – continued

As promised, here are some double page spreads from the diary:

Jan month-to-view with typographic quote

Feb month-to-view, with typographic quote and biography

Mar month-to-view

Sample of week-to-view

Information on paper sizes

I also considered different versions of the week-to-view:

The typical horizontal view

An alternative view, square boxes for better use of the space to make drawings, etc. Sort of like post-it notes.

In the end, I chose to design the week-to-view with vertical columns instead, as it was good for planning your day from morning till afternoon/night. Although, it is arguable that the horizontal view is better as it provides better visual aids and makes it easier to find the dates while flicking through the diary. I’m sure if I had spent more time developing it, I would have found a solution to combine both points. To be honest, a possible solution just came to mind, but the project’s done and submitted, so I’m going to leave it at that.

Typographic diary 2009

Just handed in my boards for our latest typographic project. We had to create a Modernist diary aimed at graphic designers for 2009. Using only typography, no images. I’m quite pleased with the final outcome, although I realize there’s still a lot more that can be done to improve on it.
